A father’s wedding day advice to his daughter’s groom has ignited discussions online after he stated that cooking is not a wife’s duty.
In a viral post circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the father clarified that while a wife may choose to cook out of love and goodwill, it should never be seen as an obligation. He stressed that cultural expectations should not dictate a woman’s role in the home, nor should husbands assume that meals are their right.
He urged the groom to adopt a mindset of gratitude rather than entitlement, warning against the common belief that a wife must always prepare food.
“Don’t believe in what our culture promotes—that as the husband and head of the family, you should come home, frown, and demand, ‘Where’s my food?’
“Who told you she has to cook for you? Nowhere, nobody. She does it out of her own volition because she wants to make you happy and seek Al-Jannah.”
