Leaders of Lilongwe shop and domestic workers have arrived at Parliament to present a petition demanding salary increases.
Association chairperson Jaffar Albdu Rahman has said workers are struggling due to the rising cost of living, with employers ignoring their pleas.
They are demanding wage hikes from K90,000 to K220,000 for shop workers and from K52,000 to K180,000 for domestic workers.
In the morning, there were running battles between some workers and the police which resulted to police firing teargas.
As of now, shops in Lilongwe remain closed.
