Sober men in Malawi will have to dig deeper into their pockets to afford soft drinks following a price adjustment by Coca-Cola Beverages Malawi (Plc).
In a press statement released on 5 March 2025, and signed by Commercial Director Collins Mussa, the company informed customers that the new prices take effect today on Thursday 6 March.
Under the new pricing structure, a bottle of Fanta which was sold at K850, is now going K900, while a 2-liter bottle of Sobo squash has surged from K8,000 to K11,000.
The price hike comes at a time when Malawi is experiencing sharp rise in the cost of goods and services. The ongoing economic challenges have triggered frustration among citizens, with some vendors who went to road protesting in major cities to pressure the government for intervention.
Coca-Cola Beverages Malawi has not explicitly stated the reasons for the price increase, but industry analysts link it to inflation, high production costs, and currency fluctuations affecting imported raw materials.
Consumers have expressed concerns over the rising cost of living, urging authorities to take measures to stabilize prices and ease economic hardships.
