Two Arrested in Phalombe for Posing as UNICEF Workers

Police in Phalombe have arrested two men, Gift Macheso, 21, and Sylvester Gawani, 27, for allegedly extorting money from locals by falsely claiming to work for UNICEF.

According to district police spokesperson Jimmy Kapanja, the suspects visited Bwanali, Chiduba, and Njima villages, where they collected K187,000, allegedly for offloading relief food from vehicles.

The two will appear in court to face charges of fraud and false pretense.
