Ras Chikomeni Chirwa has a deficit of K9.6 million as he works to raise the K10 million required for candidates to contest in the September 16 election.

During a campaign tour in Lilongwe, he managed to raise about K400,000, but he still needs to tally contributions sent through bank accounts and mobile money platforms.

Chikomeni has vowed to continue touring other areas until he reaches the required amount.

In 2019, he was unable to submit his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) after failing to pay the then-required K2 million fee for presidential candidates.

This year, the amount has increased from K2 million to K10 million.
