Bangwe All Stars FC, one of the teams promoted to the Super League last year, has been disbanded due to financial difficulties.
The owner of the team, Mphatso Jika, announced that it is no longer feasible for the club to compete in the National Division League. Jika explained that the financial burden had become overwhelming, with players’ salaries ranging from K150,000 to K400,000.
Additionally, Jika pointed out that the cost of travel for matches, especially long trips to the Northern Region, requires at least K6 million, a figure that the club can no longer afford.
Bangwe All Stars made their debut in Malawi’s top-tier league in 2023, performing well enough to secure a spot in the prestigious Airtel Top 8. However, despite their promising start, the financial strain has led to the club’s unfortunate dissolution.
Fans of Bangwe All Stars have expressed disappointment over the decision, as the team had shown great potential during their short stint in the Super League.
