Trade Minister Vitumbiko Mumba has directed all cooking oil companies in Malawi to reduce their prices.
This follows his recent visit to Happie Foods, a cooking oil producer based in Lilongwe.
During the visit, Mumba discovered that the company had already reduced the price of a 20-litre container of cooking oil from K160,000 to K100,000.
He commended Happie Foods for being the only Malawian-owned company so far to comply with the government’s directive.
The minister emphasized that he will ensure all other companies follow the same path to ease the burden on consumers.
