At least three people have been injured following violent clashes at Mfera School in Chikwawa District, where the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was holding primary elections for positions in the northern part of the district.

The chaos caused the crowd to scatter in all directions, bringing the event to a standstill.

Security personnel had to escort aspiring candidates for councillor and MP positions to safety amid the unrest.

Reports indicate that people had been waiting for over seven hours before the situation turned violent.

As a result of the violence and disorganization, the primary elections have been postponed.
