The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has announced that its current leader, Peter Mutharika, will lead the opposition coalition in the September 16 elections.
Party spokesperson Shadric Namalomba dismissed claims suggesting that United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader Dalitso Kabambe would lead the coalition due to Mutharika’s alleged ill health.
“The idea that Mutharika is sick or has aged is false. Malawians should know that Mutharika will lead the opposition coalition, and they will choose their own deputy,” Namalomba said.
Days ago, DPP through its secretary general Pter Mukhitho confirmed the news that the party it will not contest the upcoming September 16 general elections independently, signalling plans to form a political alliance with other parties.
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has announced that In a statement issued last Sunday, Mukhito said the party’s leadership is engaging in discussions with various political stakeholders to build a strong alliance that prioritizes the interests of Malawians.
