UNITED KINGDOM -Former police officer Choni Kenny, 27, has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison after admitting to multiple misconduct charges.

While serving with Greater Manchester Police, Kenny entered into a romantic relationship with inmate Josh Whelan, 28, and was caught on CCTV kissing him during a visit to Forest Bank Prison.

Kenny smuggled 20 mobile phones to Whelan, a known drug dealer, and leaked confidential police information, including a victim impact statement related to his violent charges.

After Whelan’s release, the pair were seen together in public, and Kenny continued to misuse police databases for his benefit.

She later began a relationship with another criminal, Rahim Mottley, 31, who was under investigation. Kenny travelled to Spain to see him, passed on details of an ongoing probe, and even warned him about a planned firearms raid.

The court heard that her actions stemmed from immaturity and a desire to maintain relationships, rather than financial gain.

Despite this, Judge Neil Flewitt KC said her conduct represented a serious breach of trust. Kenny was dismissed from the police on April 1 following an accelerated misconduct hearing.
