A court in Mulanje has sentenced a 53-year-old Mozambican man to pay a fine of K820,000 or serve 12 months in prison after he was found guilty of possessing illegal diesel fuel.

South Eastern Region police spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Edward Kabango, confirmed the verdict and identified the convict as Fadweck Thomas.

Kabango said that on April 20, 2025, Thomas was found with 600 litres of diesel fuel at the Muloza Border while attempting to cross into Mozambique in a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number MMS 93-48.

When he appeared before the court, Thomas pleaded guilty to the charge. The court then ordered him to pay the fine or serve a 12-month custodial sentence as a deterrent to others.

Thomas hails from Villa Milanje in Zambezia Province, Mozambique.
