
Five Arrested in Phalombe for Illegal Fuel Possession Including a Mozambican

Phalombe Police have arrested five men, including a Mozambican, for possession and attempted smuggling of petroleum products without proper documentation. The arrests were made during a sweeping exercise conducted at Chitekesa and Miseu Folo.
According to Phalombe Police spokesperson Jimmy Kapanja, the suspects were found with large quantities of petrol and diesel.
Among those arrested were Charles Yohane, 21, who was found with 100 litres of petrol, Jailosi Yohane, 35, with 60 litres of petrol and Frank Mapeto, 25, who was caught with 100 litres of diesel and an additional 20 litres of petrol.
In a separate incident at the Likangala Border, police apprehended 31-year-old Mozambican national Gabriel Petrol, who was also found in possession of illegal fuel. The operation also led to the recovery of 520 litres of petrol that had been abandoned the authorities are currently working to trace the owner.
All suspects are being held in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
Some of the suspects appeared before court on 28 April 2025, where they were fined K150, 000 each for the offense.
