Prominent Malawian philanthropist Chawezi Banda, popularly known as “Cha Cha,” has announced plans to establish a care center for underprivileged and abandoned children in Malawi.

Based in the United States, Cha Cha shared the news on her official Facebook page, expressing deep concern over the growing number of abandoned children in Malawi who lack basic necessities and proper care.

The facility, to be named “The Chacha Care Home,” aims to provide shelter, education, and essential support to children in need.

“Seeing so many children without support, love, and opportunities has moved me to take action,” she wrote. “No child should have to struggle for survival when we can come together to make a difference.”

To ensure the initiative aligns with local regulations, Cha Cha revealed that her team has already engaged with Habiba Osman, Executive Secretary of the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC), for guidance on legally establishing the care home.

In her announcement, Cha Cha also urged Malawians to take an active role in supporting vulnerable children, emphasizing that change begins at home.

“We cannot always wait for outsiders to help our children. It’s our responsibility to step up and create a better future for them,” she stated.

The project has already garnered support from well-wishers, with many praising Cha Cha’s commitment to giving back to her homeland. Further details, including the location and launch timeline, will be announced in the coming months.
