The Mzuzu Magistrate’s Court has begun delivering its ruling in a high-profile case involving former Member of Parliament Christopher Mzomera Ngwira and former councilor Dan Nkosi, who are accused of mismanaging Constituency Development Funds (CDF) between 2014 and 2019.

Senior Resident Magistrate Godfrey Nyirenda has commenced reading the judgment, explaining to the court the reasons behind the delay in delivering the verdict.

Ngwira and Nkosi face five charges related to misuse of public office. In addition, Ngwira faces a sixth charge of attempting to abuse public office, while Nkosi has two other charges of forgery.

The charges stem from allegations that the two misused nearly K3.7 million meant for the construction of Chankhalamu Primary School and Luweya Bridge, along with about K2.1 million allocated for the construction of Mzalangwe Police Unit.

This is not Ngwira’s first encounter with the law. In 2020, he was convicted for misappropriating K250,000 in government funds.
