Man Caught for Stealing K30 Million From Mzuzu Suprermarket

Police in Mzuzu have arrested a 25-year-old man identified as Iman Tayali for stealing K30 million from Luwinga Sana Supermarket on May 11, 2025.

Mzuzu Police Deputy Spokesperson Cecilia Mfune said Tayali worked as a supervisor and CCTV operator at the supermarket.

He stole the money after working hours, which was the weekend’s sales. A security guard heard strange noises and alerted others. They found Tayali trying to run away with a sack full of money.

He  was caught by the guards, who then called the police. Police found out that Tayali used a knife to cut through the iron sheets and ceiling to enter the building. He also damaged CCTV equipment worth K6 million to try and hide what he did.

The full amount of K30 million was recovered and Tayali will soon appear in court and face charges of breaking into a building and committing a crime.
