Minister of Trade and Industry Vitumbiko Mumba has dismissed reports that he participated in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primary elections in Mzimba Central, despite official results showing he received only five votes.
According to the results, Adamson Kuseri Mkandawire won the primaries with 262 votes, while Mumba trailed with just five. However, Mumba claims he was never informed about the elections and did not take part in the process.
Speaking out, Mumba said, “I was not told that there would be primaries. I was never part of that process. I’m shocked by the results being circulated.”
He has since indicated plans to seek court intervention, accusing unnamed individuals of undermining democratic fairness. “It’s clear that some people are playing games with justice, and I will let the courts handle it,” Mumba said.
The MCP leadership has not yet commented on the controversy surrounding the primaries.
