Police in the country have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for torching a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vehicle in Mponela, Dowa District, on Sunday.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Peter Kalaya condemned the incident and assured the public that those responsible would be brought to justice.

DPP spokesperson Shadric Namalomba accused the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of orchestrating the attack, claiming it was part of a broader plan to silence opposition voices ahead of the September elections.

However, MCP deputy spokesperson Ken Msonda described the incident as unfortunate but denied any party involvement. He suggested that internal disputes within the DPP might have led to the torching of the vehicle.
