Police in Zomba have arrested 11 individuals suspected of committing a range of criminal offenses, including burglary, theft, malicious damage, possession of cannabis sativa without a permit, unlawful possession of petroleum products, and receiving stolen property.

The arrests were made during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the district’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the night of May 14, 2025.

According to Zomba Police spokesperson Inspector Patricia Sipiliano, the operation followed a surge of reports received between January and March 2025 from residents in areas such as Chinamwali and Matawale, who had experienced a spate of break-ins and thefts.

“As a result of our investigations, we managed to arrest 11 suspects and recover stolen items including two plasma screens, one Lenovo laptop, and other assorted property,” said Inspector Sipiliano.

She further emphasized the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and warned that similar operations will continue across the district to combat crime.
