4O% Salary Increase Raise Concerns Among Employers

Many employers are still reacting following the recent proposal to increase domestic worker’s salary with K40 for every K100 earned. some employees in government, non governmental organisations and private companies cited their complains that it is difficult for them to adjust salaries for their domestic workers due to financial hardships.
A police officer who requested for his identity to be kept anonymous said his current salary is already not sufficient and paying a domestic worker K72,000 per month is too much for him and he would rather prefer not to have one.
Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency (CSAT) executive director Willy Kambwandila expressed concerns that following this decision their is a possibility that some domestic workers might lose their jobs. He added that with this economy many employers are already struggling financially and the are not able to increase salaries for their workers.
Meanwhile, Francis Mkandawire, Vice president for truck drivers association said they are not satisfied with the 40% increase as they were expecting an increase of 100%.
