Police in Limbe are keeping in custody Agnes Maudzu, 25, for allegedly killing her 2-year-old daughter at Wisiki village in Bangwe Township.
According to police records, on May 12, 2025, at around 11:00 a.m., Maudzu took her daughter to the child’s grandmother, requesting assistance in taking the child to Namatapa Health Centre after claiming that the child had dislocated her left arm under unclear circumstances.
At the Health facility, the child was placed in a Plaster of Paris (POP) on her broken arm.
However, the following morning on May 13, 2025, at around 0700 hours, the now deceased child was seen again crying and upon checking on her, it was discovered that her forehead had swollen and she was later taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (Q.E.C.H) for further medical attention.
At Q.E.C.H., doctors discovered multiple signs of abuse, including genital injuries and body scars. Sadly, the child died while receiving medical care.
Following investigations, which included witness reports of prior abuse by Maudzu, Bangwe Police detectives arrested the mother on suspicion of murder.
She is expected to appear in court soon.
Agnes Maudzu hails from Wisiki village in the area of Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre District.
