The court case involving Zambia’s former First Lady, Esther Lungu, and four others charged with theft of motor vehicles has been adjourned to June 24, 2025.

Lungu appeared for mention at the Lusaka Magistrate Court before Resident Magistrate Mwandu Sakala, but proceedings could not continue as Presiding Magistrate Mbuyanwa Sinvula was unavailable.

The former First Lady, along with four police officers, is facing four counts of theft of motor vehicles reportedly belonging to her relative, Elizabeth Phiri.

In addition to the theft charges, Lungu is also accused of illegally seizing a certificate of title for Phiri’s house located in Lusaka’s Libala area. She is further charged with possession of $400,000, suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The matter is expected to resume on the new set date when trial proceedings are anticipated to begin in full.
