According to authorities, the first crash occurred around 2 a.m. on LA 67, when Alexus’ SUV veered off the road, struck a culvert, and overturned. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tragically, after hearing of Alexus’ accident, JR rushed to the site but lost control of his own vehicle around 3:45 a.m. on the same road. He was ejected from the car and fatally injured after colliding with a tree.
The couple leaves behind their 4-year-old son, Gabriel, who is now in the care of both families.
Alexus’ sister, Dominique Lee, and JR’s mother, Sandra Collins, have come together to co-parent Gabriel, vowing to raise him in a stable and loving home.
Their sudden and devastating loss has shaken the Baton Rouge community, where the couple was known and loved.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding both accidents.
