Police in Salima have arrested three men after they were found in possession of 14 drums of petrol, each containing 200 litres, suspected to have been obtained illegally.
Salima Police spokesperson Rebecca Ndiwate confirmed the development, identifying the suspects as Fatsan Phiri, Madalitso Dzindiwo, and Amidu Sipolo. The trio was arrested on Friday in Sengabay after police were tipped off by members of the public.
According to Ndiwate, the suspects admitted to owning the fuel but failed to produce any documentation authorizing them to possess or transport such large quantities, leading to their arrest.
The suspects are all from Dalankwanda Village under Traditional Authority Maganga in Salima and are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to the illegal possession of petroleum products.
