A one-year-old boy has sustained injuries after being attacked by a chicken in the Kanono area of Kanyama Compound in Lusaka, Zambia.
Police assistant public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi said the incident occurred around 10:30 hours on May 25, while the child was playing outside his house with his elder sibling.
Mr Chilabi said the chicken, owned by their 43-year-old landlord, allegedly has a history of aggressive behavior and had previously attacked other children in the area.
He said the child sustained a deep cut on his head and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“Fortunately, he was attended to and later discharged after receiving medical attention. A medical report form was issued, and the police are currently investigating the matter,” Mr Chilabi said.
He added that police have engaged the Veterinary Department to quarantine the bird and conduct necessary veterinary forensic investigations.
Mr Chilabi further said the Lusaka City Council will take enforcement action against the owner of the bird under Section 67 of the Public Health Act, Chapter 295 of the Laws of Zambia, and Statutory Instrument No. 44 of 2007, which prohibit nuisances.
