This morning, a court in Mulanje handed down a 10-year sentence to two policemen and a businessman accused of brutally assaulting a 13-year-old boy, which led to the amputation of both his arms in 2023.
The boy, identified only as JM, was assaulted while in police custody at Misanjo after being arrested for allegedly stealing money from the businessman. Although some money was recovered, the businessman tied the boy up and took him to the police station, where he ordered the two policemen not to untie him.
Days later, the boy lost both arms at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
