Mzuzu Demos Update: Demonstrators Deliver Petition to Mbelwa District Council

Demonstrators have successfully delivered their petition to the Mbelwa District Council, concluding a protest that called for electoral accountability.

Reading the petition on behalf of the group, protest organiser Gomezgani Nkhoma demanded the immediate resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja. The protesters are also urging MEC to engage independent external auditors to verify the integrity of the Smartmatic electronic voting system.

In response, Mbelwa District Council Administration Officer Mercy Ghambi received the petition and assured the demonstrators that it would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for consideration.
