‘Tsotsi’ Star Presley Chweneyagae Dies at 40

Renowned South African actor Presley Chweneyagae has passed away at the age of 40.
Close friends confirmed that the celebrated actor died in the early hours of today on 27 May 2025.
Chweneyagae rose to international fame for his breakout role in the Oscar-winning film Tsotsi, which earned global acclaim and introduced him as one of South Africa’s most talented actors.
He went on to win his first Golden Horn at the inaugural South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) in 2006.
Chweneyagae was also widely known for his role as Cobra in the popular local soap The River, a character so beloved it led to a spin-off series.
His death has sent shockwaves through the South African entertainment industry, with tributes pouring in for the actor whose legacy continues to inspire.
