MEC Sets K10 Million Nomination Fee for Presidential Candidates as 2025 Election Process Begins

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has officially launched the nomination process for the 2025 Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government Elections.
Presidential candidates are required to pay a nomination fee of K10 million, which must be deposited in designated bank accounts.
Parliamentary candidates who are adult males will pay K2.5 million, while women, youth under 35, and people with disabilities will pay K1,250,000.
Local government (councillor) candidates will pay K200,000 if they are adult males and K100,000 for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
According to a MEC statement dated May 25, 2025, nomination papers will be available starting June 10, 2025.
Presidential aspirants must collect nomination forms from MEC headquarters in Lilongwe.
Parliamentary and local government candidates will collect their forms from their respective council offices.
Political parties planning to cover nomination fees for their candidates must notify the Chief Elections Officer in writing.
