Ras Chikomeni David Chirwa says he has so far managed to raise K5 million to pay the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in order to contest the presidential election scheduled for September 16 this year.
He stated that he still needs another K5 million to meet the K10 million required to run in the election.
Chirwa expressed hope that well-wishers will help him raise the remaining amount before June 10, 2025, the deadline for MEC to collect documents from all aspiring candidates for the September 16 general elections.
To support his campaign, Chirwa has put his Sienta car up for sale to help raise the necessary funds.
On March 11 this year, Ras Chikomeni held a campaign rally in Lilongwe aimed at raising money to pay the MEC nomination fee.
In 2019, he failed to contest for the presidency after being unable to raise the then-required K2 million nomination fee.
