The latest Afrobarometer survey results show that 55 percent of Malawians believe the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) should be abolished.

According to the survey, 43 percent of Malawians want the fund to continue.

Only 38 percent of the population is aware of the CDF, and among them, 72 percent believe the fund primarily benefits Members of Parliament or politicians.

Furthermore, 91 percent of respondents believe the fund would be better managed by constituency committees composed of a diverse range of people, not just MPs.

These findings come after the Lilongwe High Court ruled this week that MPs should not be involved in managing the CDF and the Water Resources Fund (WRF).

However, government legal advisor Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda announced plans to appeal the decision to seek proper interpretation of the matter.
