20-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 4 Years for Housebreaking and Theft in Machinga

Malundani Second Grade Magistrate’s Court in Nselema, Machinga, have convicted and sentenced a 20-year-old man, to four years imprisonment with hard labor for housebreaking and theft.
The convict, has been identified as Muhammad Bula who broke into the house of Fatima Muhammad Shamz in Mwitiya Village, under T.A. Kapoloma, and stole assorted items including a fridge valued at K2,000,000. The incident occurred on 7 May 2025, around 10:00 AM.
The crime was uncovered when a neighbour spotted Bula being transported by a motorcycle operator with the stolen goods. The neighbor immediately alerted officers at Nselema Police Post, who quickly launched an investigation and tracked down the suspect.
Bula was apprehended on 13 May 2025, though he initially attempted to assault a police officer during the arrest. However, he was overpowered, and the stolen items were recovered.
Victim Fatima Muhammad Shamz has since been reunited with her belongings.
The case was concluded on 29 May 2025, at the Malundani Second Grade Magistrate’s Court in Nselema, where the presiding Magistrate stressed the seriousness of Bula’s offense.
In his sentencing remarks, the Magistrate underscored the importance of deterring such crimes, protecting citizens’ property, and reinforcing the rule of law.
