The National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) has donated farm equipment worth over K40 million to farmers in Chauwa Village, under Traditional Authority Mazengera in Lilongwe.
The support aimed at helping farmers grow more using micro irrigation, was given to a group of 49 farmers which has 32 women and 18 men. They received 1 solar powered water pump, 100 bags of fertilizer, 500 kilograms of maize seeds and 125 kilograms of beans.
NEEF Chief Executive Officer, Humphreys Mdyetseni, said the goal is to make sure Malawi produces enough food and becomes self-reliant.
He urged the farmers to make good use of the inputs so that food is available until the next harvest.
So far, NEEF has given out over K6 billion in farm inputs loans across Malawi, reaching more than 13000 farmers who are now working on over 20, 000 acres of land.
