4 Arrested For Stealing Metal Bars Meant For Bridge Construction In Mulanje

Police in Mulanje have arrested four men on suspicion of allegedly stealing metal bars meant for bridge construction in Mulanje South East constituency.
Spokesperson for Mulanje police, Innocent Moses has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspects as  Peter Mangombo aged 29, Jimmy Yoana, 24, Smart Jeseman, 22, and Bright Lumbe, 26.
According to Moses, “On June 1, 2025, around 12:10 PM, MP Naomi Phiri received a call from Village Headman Namunda that some people were seen loading bridge metals into an Isuzu pickup, registration MJ 10590. She alerted community policing members who intercepted the vehicle and brought the suspects to police,”.
He dismissed rumours linking Phiri to the theft and urged the public to report any suspicious activity to protect community resources.
The four are now in police custody and they will soon appear in court to answer theft charges all are from villages under T/A Mabuka in the district.
