IPTE 19 student teachers at Machinga Teachers Training College have shut the institution’s entry gate, protesting unpaid stationery allowances of K160,000 each for their teaching practicum from September 2024 to April 2025.

The students have been boycotting classes for four weeks. Student Council President Stoneck Magambe said, “Imagine last week, they only gave us K20,000 out of K160,000—is this not playing with our minds?”

Authorities at the college and the Ministry of Higher Education are yet to comment, though the Ministry previously stated payments would be ready by May 26, 2025.
