Police at Jenda in Mzimba have arrested Genesis Mtonga on suspicion that he is connected to the death of his father, Langston Mtonga, who died on the way to the hospital after being heavily assaulted by the son (suspect) during a fight they had picked at Luwerezi in the district.

The arrest on May 29, 2025, follows a series of investigations conducted by the station as the suspect, upon the death of his father, went into hiding.

It has been established that earlier this month, on May 13, 2025, Genesis Mtonga (the suspect) went to a drinking place in the village, where he got into a quarrel with another man.

This led to serious confrontations and physical assaults.

Later, the man with whom Genesis had the altercation went to the suspect’s house and ransacked it, damaging some utensils.

Upon his return, Genesis was angered by the condition of his house. He accused his father of allowing an unknown man into their village to damage his property.

He further claimed that his father shared serious information about him with the man who ransacked his home. Later, he assaulted his father, who fell unconscious on the ground, bleeding heavily.

Langston Mtonga, father to the suspect, died on the way to Luwerezi Health Centre, where he was being taken for treatment.

Upon noticing that his father had died, Genesis left the village and went into hiding until his arrest on May 29, 2025, at Mpondagaga in Nkhotakota.

As it stands, even though Genesis is admitting to the assault of his father that led to his death, his arrest is a mere suspicion that he took part in the death of his father and has been subsequently charged with murder, which is contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.

Genisis Mtonga, who hails from Nkhoma village, Traditional Authority Mabulabo in Mzimba district, will be taken to court soon to answer the charges levelled against him.
