
ESCOM Announces More Blackouts Following Kapichila Fault

A major fault hit Kapichira Power Station on 2nd June, 2025, one of the largest hydroelectricity plant in the country, which is managed by Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO).
As a result, Electricity Supply Cooperation of Malawi (ESCOM) has announced an increase in load shedding due to reduction in power supply. The company said the new blackout schedule is meant to manage the power supply and prevent a total system breakdown.
This means that, Malawians should expect more frequent power cuts throughout the week .
Meanwhile, ESCOM is in the process of resolving the matter and has apologized to its valued customers for the inconvenience this may cause .
