Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the North and Rumphi North MP, Jappie Mhango, spent the night in custody at Mzuzu Police Station following his arrest by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
He is accused of authorizing the sale of government houses at below-market prices during his time as Minister of Transport and Public Works.
The ACB claims the sales benefited his relative, Cuthbert Mhango, and others, causing financial loss to the government.
Mhango also allegedly gave false information to ACB investigators about a house linked to his second wife.
His lawyer has arrived, but a caution statement is yet to be recorded.
