Police Officer Commits Suicide in Dedza

Information reaching this publication indicates that a Dedza police officer, Eric Chasweka, has died by suicide after hanging himself.

Central West Region Police Deputy Spokesperson Foster Benjamin confirmed the incident, stating that the 31-year-old officer had reported for duty last Friday. However, after some time, he failed to return, prompting his colleagues to check on him.

“When they arrived, they found the door to his house locked from the inside. After knocking and receiving no response, they broke down the door and discovered him hanging from a rope. Paramedics were immediately called,” Benjamin said.

According to Benjamin, the officer was pronounced dead at the scene, with strangulation from the rope confirmed as the cause of death.

Three suicide notes were found in the house, reportedly addressed to his parents, his supervisor, and his girlfriend, who is also a police officer.
