Former Malawian President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has paid tribute to the late Edgar Chagwa Lungu, former President of the Republic of Zambia, describing him as “a brother, a man of great dignity, humility, and unwavering commitment to public service.”

Writing on his official Facebook page on Thursday evening, Mutharika said Lungu was more than just a political colleague.

“During our time as presidents of our respective nations, I had the honour of working closely with him on matters of both bilateral and multilateral importance. He offered wise counsel, displayed steady leadership, and showed unwavering dedication to the people of Zambia,” Mutharika wrote.

Reflecting on their shared background in law, he added, “As a fellow legal luminary, I admired his deep respect for the rule of law and his understanding of justice and governance. As a friend, I valued his warmth, humour, and loyalty.”

Mutharika extended his heartfelt condolences to Lungu’s family, President Hakainde Hichilema, the government and people of Zambia, and all those mourning the former president.
