Police in Mangochi are hunting for unknown assailants who brutally murdered a 5-year-old boy,Brian Alabi , whose body was discovered buried in a garden near his home in Mkwesa Village, Traditional Authority Bwananyambi.

Mangochi Police Station Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi confirmed the tragic incident occurred on June 5, 2025. The previous day, Brian was last seen playing with friends while his mother, 23-year-old Latifa Bilutoni, went to a nearby garden with neighbors.

Upon returning home, Bilutoni realized her son was missing. She informed her uncle and the village head, who organized a community search that initially yielded no results.

The following morning, the search resumed and took a grim turn when villagers noticed a dog barking and digging in a nearby garden. Upon investigation, human fingers were spotted protruding from the soil. The buried body was later confirmed to be Brian’s.

Police and health officials exhumed the body, which showed signs of torture: the boy’s neck was tied with cloth, both eyes had been punctured, and there was bleeding from the nose and mouth. A postmortem confirmed that Brian died from strangulation and severe head injuries.

Mangochi police have since launched a full investigation and manhunt. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators, who will face murder charges once caught.
