The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has announced that the by-election scheduled for today in the northern part of Ntcheu County will not take place.

According to the party’s spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba, this follows a court injunction obtained by Everton Chimulirenji to stop the by-election.

The DPP had already conducted a by-election in the area on April 12 this year, during which Chimulirenji was declared the winner. However, the party had planned to hold another by-election today following complaints from Jane Ansah, who is contesting the results, claiming the previous election was not free and fair.

Namalomba stated that the party will respect the court’s decision, and if it is ruled that a by-election must be held, they will comply accordingly.
