The High Court Financial Crimes Division has ordered the seizure of a property in Blantyre belonging to Charles Mchacha, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional Governor for the South.

The order follows an application by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which is investigating Mchacha for allegedly corruptly acquiring land within the Kanjedza Forest reserve.

The seized property, which was previously meant for forestry purposes, is suspected to have been obtained through abuse of office during Mchacha’s tenure as Minister of Irrigation and Water Development.

The preservation order, signed by Judge Anneline Kanthambi, is intended to secure the asset while the investigation continues.

The ACB says the move is part of broader efforts to combat high-level corruption and recover public assets.
