The Principal Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe has announced that it will continue hearing the case against the accused, Phwedo—real name Tumpe Mtaya—on July 10, 2025.

Today, the government was expected to produce the ID card used by the child who is alleged to have been raped by Phwedo in order to sit for the Form 4 examination.

On May 16, Principal Resident Magistrate Benjamin Chulu had ordered the government to produce the ID card within 14 days.

However, instead of the ID card, the government presented a letter of withdrawal from MANEB.

In response, the magistrate has now given the government seven days to produce the ID card or provide a clear explanation for its absence.
