Police Arrest 16 Congolese Nationals for Illegal Entry in Mzuzu

Police in Mzuzu have apprehended 16 Congolese nationals, including eight minors, for entering Malawi without valid travel documents.
According to Mzuzu Police Deputy PRO Sub Inspector Cecilia Mfune, the group—14 males and two females aged between 8 and 28—was arrested on June 11, 2025, at Zikomo Lodge in Chibanja Township.
The arrests followed a tip-off from concerned citizens about the group’s presence at the lodge.
Mfune stated that all individuals failed to produce documentation, prompting their detention.
The group will be handed over to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services for further action.
