Umodzi Party called on Malawians to refrain from politicising the memorial service of the late Dr. Saulos Chilima and eight others, which was held on Tuesday, marking one year since their tragic death in a plane crash at Nthungwa in Chikangawa Forest on 10 June 2024.
The party’s president, Thomas Kaumba, made the remarks in response to the two parallel memorial services that were conducted on the same day, as well as the release of the final investigation report by the German-based BFU.
“Despite all the criticism directed at him, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera still found it fitting to honour the spirits of the departed sons and daughters of the soil. President Chakwera demonstrated not only maturity in leading the memorial service but also genuine love for his former vice president, Dr. Saulos Chilima,” said Kaumba.
He further warned opposition parties against using events of national importance for political gain, urging them to respect the solemnity of such occasions.
