Blantyre Central Second Grade Magistrate’s Court has convicted and fined 41-year-old Tiyanjane Macdonald K650,000 for causing grievous harm to her husband following a domestic dispute.
According to Ndirande Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Madalitso Sadik Phiri, the incident occurred on May 25, 2025, after Macdonald allegedly saw her husband speaking to another woman at Majiga Market. In a fit of jealousy, she reportedly assaulted the woman before being restrained by her husband.
Later that night, while her husband was asleep, Macdonald poured hot water on him, leaving him with severe burns. The matter was reported to police, and the victim was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for treatment.
In court, State Prosecutor Felezia Zaina argued that the act was premeditated and intentional. Macdonald pleaded guilty and asked the court for leniency, but the magistrate upheld the prosecution’s position and imposed a fine of K650,000.
Macdonald hails from Sidyani Village, Traditional Authority Samala in Balaka District.
