Security has been increased in Mzuzu as vendors protest against foreign nationals operating retail shops. The protesters argue that foreigners should be limited to wholesale businesses only.
The march started at Zingwangwa Market and is expected to end at the Mbelwa District Council Offices after passing through Katoto Ground for prayers.
Mzuzu Main Market Chairperson Alexander Sikwese said the protest follows government silence on concerns raised during a similar demo last month.
Tensions rose after unidentified individuals, reportedly armed, were seen blocking roads and stopping others from joining the protest—causing fear among residents.
Police have been deployed to maintain order, and business activities are continuing under tight security.
