
Police in Karonga Arrest Man for Breaking into House and Assaulting Woman

Police in Karonga District have arrested a 32-year-old man, Jack Kalambo, for breaking into a house and assaulting a 47-year-old woman who was visiting her ailing mother in Mwaisondo Village.
District police spokesperson, Ms. Margret Msiska, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on the night of June 15, 2025. The woman was reportedly shocked to find a stranger inside the house and quickly closed the door through which the intruder had entered. In an attempt to silence her, the suspect used an axe to strike her on the head.
Neighbors who heard the commotion rushed to the scene, apprehended Kalambo, and handed him over to Songwe Police Station.
“The woman is still receiving treatment at Karonga Government Hospital. Kalambo, who hails from Mwaisondo Village, T/A Mwakaboko, will appear in court to answer charges under Sections 309 and 235 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and causing grievous bodily harm,” said Msiska.
