Soche Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Aaron Chilala, has confirmed the development and said the arrests were made following an intelligence-driven operation conducted within Zingwangwa, Manja, and Soche Quarry to sanitize the areas from crime.
Among the 17 suspects, one individual identified as Luka Mandula, 24, has been apprehended in connection with the murder of a 47-year-old kabanza motorcycle operator, Victor Nzolima, who was killed and dumped at Soche Hill Secondary School ground on the night of March 21, 2025.
“After thorough investigations, the police recovered a Shemes cellphone that was stolen that night, and investigations are ongoing to recover the Kingboss motorcycle”, said Chilala.
Two other suspects are facing charges of housebreaking and theft, four are charged with theft, while ten are accused of selling liquor without a license.
The accused will appear in court soon to answer their respective charges. Soche Police reassures residents that they are working diligently to combat crime in their policing area to create a safer environment.
