Mighty Wanderers’ die-hard supporter Nelson Chole, popularly known as Bwede has publicly accused the club of withholding K1 million in prize money that was awarded to fans by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) earlier this year.

In a message directed to popular football Facebook Page Wa Ganyu, Bwede expressed his frustration over the missing funds, stating that despite winning the FAM supporters’ challenge in February, no money has been given to the fans.

“Sir, you know we supporters haven’t received our money yet. This is the K1 million we won from FAM in February. That money belongs to the fans. We’ve done everything that was required, but we still haven’t received it,” said Bwede.

He explained that although he went to collect the trophy on behalf of Wanderers supporters, he never received any share of the funds. Instead, he is now being wrongly accused by fellow fans of taking the money.

“Some supporters are accusing me of eating the money, yet I never even received it. I only went to collect the trophy as a representative of the fans,” he clarified.

In protest, Bwede announced that he and other supporters will not attend the upcoming match unless the issue is resolved.

“Tell whoever took the money that this weekend, Bwede and all fellow fans will not be going to the stadium to cheer. Let those who took the money go and sing on their own,” he declared.

Meanwhile, the Football Association of Malawi has confirmed that it already transferred the K1 million to Mighty Wanderers on April 10, 2025.

“We deposited the said money which Bwede is asking for. Yes, it was K1 million and we deposited the money into Mighty Wanderers’ account,” FAM told Wa Ganyu.

With FAM confirming that the funds were delivered, pressure is now on Mighty Wanderers to account for the money and explain why the intended beneficiaries  the supporters  have not received it.

The club has not yet issued any official statement regarding the allegations.
